Manager of Events and B2B Development

Position Summary:

The Manager of Events and B2B Development executes the Joseph-Beth Booksellers author events activity for the Joseph-Beth Bookstore and Bronte Bistro. This position manages and hosts large events from approval through to completion, handling event logistics, and acts as the main point of contact for items related to event planning and production. A successful candidate in this role will be personable, professional, great at relationship building, organized, and able to manage the logistics of multiple events simultaneously, as well as great at hosting/representing Joseph-Beth and creating a great experience for authors and guests. Additionally, this position will lead B2B sales efforts, including business development with publishers, schools, libraries, local businesses, as well as hospitals where JB Retail Collective operates a gift shop.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Request national events as well as coordinate with publishing teams and authors
  • Set up and events with both national and local authors
  • Manage coordination of all events, including gathering assets and making sure events are communicated across communications platforms, creating briefs for each event to be shared with stores to host, host large author events, support large OFFSITE events as needed, coordinate with author and publishing teams.
  • Assist in hosting virtual events as needed
  • Coordinate communications and logistics for all events, including day of event
  • Coordinate school visits
  • Promote the Joseph-Beth Brand in the local community, communicating with local businesses, schools, churches, and hotels.
  • Represent Joseph-Beth Booksellers as part of book industry events.
  • Partner with store management team on events to ensure open communication, providing information they need, and are knowledgeable of all things going on in-store
  • Provide training and mentorship on event hosting, auditing an event at each location quarterly and providing feedback
  • Responsible for organizing event details such as decor, catering, entertainment, transportation, special guests, equipment, promotional material etc.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of all function spaces and location-specific details, all styles of meeting room settings, and all on site equipment.
  • Effectively coordinate with the Bookstore and Bistro General Managers on any event changes.
  • Identify staffing needs for event offerings – both onsite and OFFSITE
  • Collaborate on effective communications for each event.
  • Review/conduct post-event evaluations and report on outcomes.
  • Submit book orders to the book team for author events.
  • Leverage publisher and industry contacts to acquire B2B book sales opportunities; work with book and distribution center teams to facilitate successful fulfillment of B2B orders.
  • Support B2B outreach efforts, including drafting communications, building out and maintaining outreach list, and helping to follow up on any orders.

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Demonstrated interest in special event planning and execution.
  • Physical requirements - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Must be able to represent Joseph-Beth in a professional manner and effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow employees.
