Description

The Mail Room and Bookstore Clerk manages incoming and outgoing mail and packages, maintains mailroom operations, and supports bookstore activities including customer service, inventory management, and sales. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a customer service mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

Mail Room (50%)

  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and packages to designated departments and personnel.
  • Prepare and package outgoing mail and shipments, ensuring accurate labeling, postage, and shipping documentation.
  • Operate mailroom equipment, such as postage meters, scales, and scanning devices, and troubleshoot minor issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing packages and shipments.
  • Ensure compliance with postal regulations and guidelines.
  • Keep the mailroom organized, stocked, and free of safety hazards.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Bookstore Clerk (50%)

  • Provide excellent customer service, assisting customers with product inquiries and purchases.
  • Operate the cash register, process transactions accurately, and securely handle cash and credit card payments.
  • Restock shelves, organize displays and maintain an appealing and clean sales floor.
  • Assist with inventory management by receiving, labeling, and shelving new inventory, and conducting periodic inventory counts.
  • Assist in setting up promotional displays and managing seasonal sales.
  • Assist with setting up merchandise for events and managing sales.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Work Environment

  • The position involves working in both a typical office mailroom setting and a retail bookstore environment.
  • This role requires a mix of sitting, standing, lifting, and bending.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and a customer service-oriented mindset.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry packages and inventory items up to 50 lbs.
