General Summary:

Under the supervision of the Bookstore Team Leader, the Sales Clerk ensures the
Bookstore operates in a manner that provides a quality experience for its customers.
The Clerk serves as cashier while providing outstanding customer service. Duties
include assisting customers in person, with the virtual bookstore and over the
telephone with respect, courtesy and accuracy in a timely manner. The Clerk will
prepare and serve hot and cold beverages while paying attention to details. Maintain
stock of coffee counter supplies. Assist customers with package returns and
shipments. Completes daily logs for receiving UPS and FedEx shipments. The Sales
clerk utilizes the computerized cash register completing various sales and credit card
transactions, and balancing the register at the end of shift. The Sales Clerk assists
with inventory management, which includes preparing purchases, receiving, pricing,
filing, and organizing merchandise and replenishing shelves. Light cleaning and
rearranging of merchandise and displays.

 Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately perform cash register transactions while maintaining daily cash
  • Make and serve beverages such as espresso, tea and specialty beverages.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment and tools.
  • Receive and stock goods, replenish shelves and supplies.
  • Controlling of all receiving and outgoing packages
  • Assist customers in locating merchandise and online ordering of textbooks
  • Report any discrepancies and defective merchandise
  • Perform problem-solving for customers
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and experience in a retail environment, including cashiering and working with the public.
  • Must have computer experience, excellent oral communication skills and the ability to work independently, self-directed, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to multi-task and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Willing and able to enthusiastically interact with others face to face, by telephone and through other communication methods using active listening skills.
  • Must be able to resolve problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Must be detail-oriented, motivated, reliable and able to work with diverse members of the community.
