The Bookstore Sales and Receiving Associate provides excellent customer service, takes the lead in receiving merchandise, and assists in the sales of general merchandise and textbooks. This position assists customers with purchases, operates a cash register and credit card terminal, and is responsible for ensuring merchandise is properly displayed. The Bookstore Sales and Receiving Associate will interact regularly with students, faculty, staff, and college visitors. This is a full-time, 12-month position, with the exception of scheduled closings during the academic year.

 

We are seeking candidates that can start as soon as possible.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains all operations in the store relating to receiving, shelving, fulfilling textbook reservations, etc.
  • Properly receive and price merchandise within established pricing procedures.
  • Operate a cash register efficiently ensuring that all functions are performed in a timely fashion and accurate manner. Transact sales at the cash register including cash, credit card, campus card, and office purchases.
  • Monitor inventory levels of various bookstore products and stock merchandise in an orderly and timely manner -- enabling the availability of products to customers.
  • Greet and assist customers; respond to customer inquiries and provide general information concerning bookstore product information and location.
  • Maintain bookstore environment in a clean and orderly condition; assists in organizing displays in store and in merchandising cases.
  • Under general supervision, resolve most questions; accomplish most tasks alone; keep the manager well informed of progress; some interpretation of established work procedures is required.
  • Adapt schedule to accommodate for store needs; the ability to work nights, weekends, and manager absences.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment as needed.
  • Accept and process special orders from customers.
  • Supervise student employees for restocking of merchandise and general duties.
  • Provide college information to the campus community and visitors.
  • Ensure Paul Smith’s College Safety Standards are maintained while performing daily activities.
  • Performs various additional related tasks as assigned by the Bookstore Manager.

 

Qualifications and Preferences:

  • Associate’s degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years’ experience in retail or business setting preferred.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, in addition to kneeling, climbing, walking.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift and carry at least 50 pounds when receiving inventory.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, email, web.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent record of attendance and reliability.
  • Strong customer service skills, cash handling skills, and cash register experience.
  • Must be a team player, able to manage multiple priorities, work well in a fast-paced environment, and possess the ability to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Must be able to effectively train and work with student bookstore employees.
  • Ability to follow safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.
