📢 The Common Good is seeking an experienced manager to oversee the bar and cafe side of our new bookstore, bar, community and events space in located on historical downtown strip in Ellenville, NY📢
Overview:
- Function as the leader of the staff, providing a strong example and motivating the team on a daily basis
- Ensure bar operations are efficient and profitable, while maintaining the positive reputation of The Common Good in the community
- Uphold high standards of food and beverage quality, customer service, cleanliness, health and safety of employees and customers on a daily basis
- Work a weekly schedule as dictated by the store’s varying needs equivalent to 40-50 hours
- Maintain attention to detail while being able to think critically about bar operations
- Understand role of bar manager and the significance of bar’s operation as it relates to the overall performance of the store
- Understand that any of these requirements are apt to change at any given time based on the needs of the business
- Possess a willingness to grow and change as dictated by The Common Good’s needs to achieve success as an independent business
Staff Management:
- Manage staff members throughout their shifts and provide necessary feedback to improve overall workflow and performance on a daily and weekly basis
- Effectively delegate and direct staff to maximize customer satisfaction and productivity
- Assist in hiring process through screening applications and participating in interviews
- Assist with staffing for in-store events involving bar as necessary
Staff Training:
- Manage training schedule of new employees
- Conduct ongoing bartender training, monthly or as needed.
- Motivate and inspire staff to achieve the highest standards in their daily work
Inventory Management:
- Maintain stock levels of all bar items and prepare regular replacement orders for all suppliers as needed; work directly with the owner to ensure consistency
- Understand food costs as they fluctuate, as well as their effect on our margin; report weekly to owner with significant adjustments to costs and inventory budget
- Work closely with owner to understand inventory control and develop and execute plans to maintain a favorable cost of goods in the bar, such as monthly inventory counts, waste and staff meals
- Contribute ideas towards menu development including seasonal food specials, drink specials, new products, pricing adjustments, cross utilization, etc.
Administrative:
- Communicate staffing needs to owner monthly, and adjust as necessary for events, busy seasons, holidays and off seasons
- Maintain stock of printed menus, update procedures checklists when necessary, and print new product signage as needed
- Ensure creative and attractive display of merchandise and signage, rotating regularly
- Report issues and successes involving staff, inventory control, and average sales weekly to owner
- Work with owner on traditional and creative marketing and advertising that will improve overall bar sales, events and additional business development
- Work with owner and service providers to maintain all equipment in top working condition; notify owner and/or service providers when service is anticipated or needed
Qualifications:
