Description
The Albuquerque Academy Bookstore is seeking an individual for the position of Assistant. This position is responsible for playing a key support role in Bookstore operations including managing and stocking inventory. The employee will work under the direction of the Bookstore Manager. They will also interact with students, parents, and other school staff members. The Assistant must be able to lift fifty pounds and be on their feet for the majority of each shift. The ideal applicant is a self-directed, people person with strong problem-solving skills. Strong candidates are attracted to our mission and see themselves as engaged community members.

Essential Functions
- Inventory and stock supplies, snacks, and drinks.
- Inventory all State Textbooks, supplies, books, spirit items, and clothing.
- Coordinate the distribution and return of State Textbooks.
- Assist students with purchases in the Bookstore.
- Prepare the weekly deposit.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts.
- Transport supplies across campus via golf-cart.
- Support the School and its mission, always maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
- Foster and maintain a culture of mutual respect, equitable practice, and joy.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and communicate and collaborate effectively across differences.
Other Responsibilities
- Work with and train all volunteers.
- Run errands that are essential for daily operations.
- Attend employee meetings as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Some college coursework is preferred.
Experience
- Previous experience in retail is required.
- Some experience in accounting work, especially in educational environments, is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to handle transactions involving money and reconciliation.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Special Requirements
- A valid Driver’s License is required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Working Environment
- Majority of work is performed in an indoor setting in the campus Bookstore.
- The position is 20 hours per week Monday through Friday, with specific hours set by mutual agreement between the employee and the Bookstore Manager.
- Evening and weekend hours will be required, based on campus events and demands.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
- Frequent lifting, carrying, kneeling, and pushing to transport and stock materials
- Extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking
