SUMMARY:

Employees are responsible for exceptional customer service and the daily maintenance involved in running a bookstore. Experience in a retail environment is preferred. A love of books and general knowledge of multiple genres are desired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

• Assisting customers in store and on the phone
• Providing book recommendations on a wide variety of subjects
• Professional conduct with co-workers and customers (both in-person as well as by phone and email, etc.)
• Using a POS system to accept payments, send invoices, and process inventory
• Evaluating quality of books for trade-ins
• Using a computer to order books for customers
• Alphabetizing, categorizing, pricing, and shelving books
• Maintaining displays and organizing shelves
• Minor housekeeping such as dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning the bathroom
• Handling daily store operations, usually as a single employee

HOURS: This is a part time position, and the employee will work about 8-8.5 hours per week. The schedule will be every Saturday from 9:50 am until 6 pm.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• A desire to serve others and to proactively find and finish tasks during the workday.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, speak clearly, kneel, climb step ladders, reach and lift books above head, and lift roughly 30-50 pounds.
• Ability to correctly and professionally convey written and verbal messages to customers as a representative of the company.
• Proficiency in operating a computer and POS system is required.
• Mathematical skills are needed to count money, make change, operate a calculator, and figure store credit.
• A pleasant demeanor and neat, conservative attire are essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Generally a busy retail environment. The employee must be able to handle multiple customers and several tasks at once. The primary work location will be in Covington, but employee may be asked to work at our Issaquah location occasionally. Additional hours available for someone who can be regularly scheduled at both Issaquah and Covington locations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school graduate minimum. Retail experience is preferred. Must be at least 18 years old.
