Job Summary:
The Bookseller is the first point of contact for customers and is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, promoting store products and programs, and maintaining a welcoming and organized store environment. You should be knowledgeable about a wide range of books and related merchandise and be able to offer expert advice and recommendations. This role involves assisting customers, handling point-of-sale transactions, merchandising, and participating in store promotions and events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service:
- Greet customers warmly and offer expert assistance tailored to their needs.
- Provide knowledgeable recommendations based on a thorough understanding of store inventory, including books, gifts, and other merchandise.
- Research and locate books or items when customers provide limited information.
- Facilitate special orders, exchanges, and gift-wrapping services.
- Sales & Promotions:
- Process sales transactions efficiently, including handling cash, credit, and gift card payments.
- Promote store programs, including membership offers, special promotions, and company-sponsored initiatives and programs.
- Balance the cash drawer at the end of each shift in line with the Loss Prevention Policy.
- Merchandising & Inventory:
- Accurately shelve books and other products per store merchandising guidlines.
- Create and maintain visually appealing displays in accordance with merchandising guidelines.
- Participate in inventory counts and stock checks as required.
- Keep the sales floor well-organized, clean, and replenished throughout the day.
- Store Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing daily housekeeping tasks, including dusting, sweeping, and ensuring restroom cleanliness.
- Ensure the store is well-maintained and inviting, adhering to safety and accessibility standards.
- Marketing & Events:
- Contribute to store marketing efforts by writing book reviews, assisting with newsletter content, and participating in promotional events.
- Support in-store events, including author signings, book clubs, and holiday promotions, by assisting with setup, customer engagement, and follow-up tasks.
- Other Duties:
- Assist in other departments or with additional tasks as needed, such as receiving shipments, assembling small fixtures, or helping with store-related projects.

Qualifications:
- Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Experience: Previous retail experience is preferred but not required. Familiarity with books and the publishing industry is a plus.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Skills:
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Technical: Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office, and the ability to learn the store's Point of Sale (POS) and inventory systems.
- Organization: Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Problem-Solving: Creative problem-solving abilities and a self-starter mentality.
- Physical Ability: Ability to lift and carry up to 40-50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
Schedule & Availability:
- Part-Time: Weekend and Holiday availability is required; hours and daily schedules will vary based on store needs.

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 28 per week
