Politics and Prose Bookstore has an opening for a full-time (40 hours per week) Branch Bookseller. This is an hourly, non-exempt position that reports to the Branch Director. Branch Booksellers are responsible for ensuring that bookstore operations run smoothly in a lively work environment that offers a varied workday ranging from moving boxes of books, offering personal book recommendations, and providing top-notch customer service. This position will float between the branch stores located at the Wharf in SW DC and Union Market in NE DC.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Assisting customers with book selections
- Operating cash registers and answering phones
- Carrying and unpacking boxes
- Shelving books
- Assisting with events
- Receiving book orders
- Designing and maintaining displays
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the stores by dusting, cleaning windows, sweeping, and mopping
Job requirements:
- Knowledge and love of books
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask
- A cooperative spirit
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Ability to lift and carry at least 40 pounds
- Experience in retail strongly preferred
- Bookstore experience preferred
Compensation and benefits:
- The range for this position is $18.65 to $20.15 hourly depending on relevant experience.
- Full-time employees accrue 10 days of paid leave and six days of paid sick leave a year.
